Exploring the Greenway
The Waterford Greenway stretches from Dungarvan to the ancient city of Waterford, across 11 bridges, 3 viaducts, and a 400-meter tunnel. Discover some spectacular sceneries along the Deise Greenway path such as Walton Park Dungarvan, Clonea Beach, Dungarvan Bay, Ballyvoyle Tunnel & Viaduct, Durrow Viaduct and Kilmacthomas Viaduct to name just a few. There are so many gems along the way. Cycling the Waterford Greenway is a wonderful way to explore The Déise and get some exercise at the same time. Go at your own pace and discover the sunny south-east for yourself, you won’t be disappointed. You can take on the 46km route together or there are shorter routes along the way to cater for all ages. You can also walk the greenway.
Dungarvan to Waterford (46km)
The stunning Greenway offers 46 glorious car free kilometres along the spectacular Waterford Coastline and the best thing is you can choose where to start the route from either Dungarvan or Waterford City. If 46km is too ambitious you can chose a more manageable section of the route and start at any of the access points along the way. Covering 10km, the section from Dungarvan to Durrow is particularly lovely.
Dungarvan to Durrow (10km)
The 10km stretch from Dungarvan to Durrow is simply fantastic. Cycle out along the Waterford Greenway, over the Causeway, around picturesque Clonea Strand, past the ambush, through Ballyvoille Tunnel and onto Durrow. Ideal for families.
Durrow to Kilmacthomas
The Durrow to Kilmacthomas stretch is 13km. Cycling east towards Waterford quickly takes you away from the coast and back inland through the gently rolling countryside of County Waterford. To your left the Comeragh Mountains looms on the horizon and as you continue on it is time to cross the spectacular Durrow Viaduct which provides an awe-inspiring view. It’s not long at all until the historic village of Kilmacthomas comes into view.
Kilmeaden to Waterford City (10km)
Starting at Kilmeaden Greenway car park, this 10km route takes you towards the Greenways endpoint in Waterford City. The most apparent natural feature of this route is the majestic River Suir. Cycling along the banks of the Suir with the gentle swaying of nearby trees in the wind is a truly calming experience and cannot be missed.
